It is the first day of the British Motor Yacht Show in Swanwick Marina, and we thought there would be nothing better than having a good look around the Sunseeker yachts exhibited here with Sunseeker Southampton. Taking an individual look at each Sunseeker model on display, we have spoken to the Sunseeker London Group Sales Brokers on board to learn more about the qualities of each vessel. Our first feature covers one hard top and one flybridge model; the Sunseeker Predator 53 and the Manhattan 73.

The Sunseeker Predator 53 boasts many ‘firsts’ for the current Sunseeker range; the first model to offer a 3-cabin layout, the first to feature sliding saloon doors; the first to introduce Gyro stabilisation and the first to include the JMS aft docking system option. Balancing performance with comfortable living space, the Predator 53 lends itself beautifully to multiple types of boating, whether it is long cruising or short blasts around the bay.

William Burns, Sales and Charter Broker for Sunseeker London, very recently completed delivery on a new Predator 53 and is extremely well-versed to talk us through the model in greater detail whilst she is on display at the British Motor Yacht Show.

Discussing the qualities of the Predator 53 on the aft cockpit, it is quickly evident that the model offers a very sociable outlook to the aft; U-shape seating encapsulates a teak table and lends for a great entertaining area.

Opening the sliding doors to the Saloon, William comments “what is initially striking about this Predator 53 when you walk on board, is the panoramic viewpoint that is offered by the large saloon windows. Not only do they provide natural light to the upper deck, but the carbon and glass sliding hard top illuminates the galley below, creating a much more expansive feel.”

Accommodation below comprises of a full head height aft Master cabin and Forward VIP cabin, both with ensuite showers and a Twin Guest cabin which shares its facilities with the VIP through a ‘Jack-and-Jill’ door. Differing from its predecessor the Predator 52, the Twin Guest cabin of the 53 boasts a side-by-side arrangement as opposed to a bunk, resulting in a much more spacious third cabin.

“If you require further space” William says, “then the easy access crew cabin can be used for additional storage, something that a number of our clients tend to opt for. The Predator 53 is a very manageable boat if you are looking operate it yourself as opposed to a crewed option.”

As per all of the Sunseeker range, the Predator 53 is available with several engine options. This particular Predator 53 is fitted with the twin MAN R6 800 option, however she is also available with Caterpillar C12s or, for those seeking the greatest manoeuvrability, Volvo IPS 900s.

The successor to the extremely popular Manhattan 70, the Sunseeker Manhattan 73 is the first model in the range to feature an electronic opening GRP hard top. On the water in Swanwick marina, Harry Bristow-Holmes, Sales Broker and Brokerage Director of Sunseeker London, runs through the highlights of the largest of the current Manhattan family.

With the choice of 3 or 4 cabins, depending on your preference of a galley up or down, the Sunseeker Manhattan 73 is a capacious vessel either way. This particular Manhattan 73 offers the standard 4-cabin option where the Saloon, Dining Area and Galley are all on one level, resulting in a more convivial area for entertaining; a benefit for many from the split-level Manhattan 70. Harry adds that “the extremely spacious twin berth aft crew area presents an opportunity for clients to use it as a 5th cabin, which is appealing for those looking for more volume.”

The full beam Master Cabin boasts a walk-in wardrobe and vanity area, with a well-appointed Ensuite bathroom. “In fact”, adds Harry, “the large shower separates the Master bed from the engine room bulkhead, putting greater distance between the guests and the quiet running generators.”

Heading the to flybridge area, for which the Manhattan 73 is famed, Harry talks about the generous entertaining space. “The extended flybridge on the Manhattan 73 can accommodate dining for 12, as well as a fixed sunbathing space and room for 2 freestanding sunloungers.” Having just sold a Manhattan 73 that is currently en route to Croatia Harry further comments that “I recently specced a Manhattan 73 which features an extended flybridge dining area, allowing space for up to 18 guests to dine together as per the client’s specific request.”

Further advantages of the Manhattan 73 are found at the bow, which features a unique step-up seating area with space for a small coffee table as well as a large sunpad with folding backrests, ideal for relaxing at the same time as taking in your surroundings.

Clearly, the Manhattan 73 packs a punch; she delivers enormous amounts interior and exterior space, and offers very comfortable accommodation. Harry summarises “there is a reason why the Manhattan 73 has been a very popular model for Sunseeker; combining unique style and design with comfort and practicability, she represents the ultimate flybridge yacht.”
