Following recent national press coverage in The Times Magazine of the newly launched Sunseeker 155 Yacht, the Sunseeker London Group’s Sales Director Christopher Head reflects on the positive impact that this iconic launch has had upon British yachting and the industry as a whole.
“The Times Magazine article underpins the luxury lifestyle that a yacht such as this can offer. The Sunseeker brand has grown exponentially over the years and the 155 represents the pinnacle. As the World’s largest Sunseeker yacht supplier, we must congratulate the build team and craftsmen at the shipyard on the feat they have achieved.”
Christopher considers the current situation of the yachting market; “I am pleased to see that yachting has grown considerably in the UK, Mediterranean and beyond. From the entry-level Portofino 40 right up to the 155 Yacht, we have seen a general increase in demand for boats this year.”
He continues; “as the summer season draws closer, our sales teams note a sharp increase in enquiries both for sale and purchase. For instance, the past two weeks have seen a considerable jump in yacht sales over 24 metres, to the extent that we are actively calling out for new brokerage listings to meet our client needs!”
The Sunseeker London Group has already experienced first hand the “boom in high-end boat building” identified by The Times Magazine, having seen one of the most successful London Boat Shows in terms of sales this January. Managing Director David Lewis commented earlier this year that “turnout at the London Boat Show was better than ever…with new leads being generated from individuals that we have never had the privilege of meeting before.”
The 75 Yacht that made its debut at the show will shortly be making its voyage to the Greek islands of Corfu with Sunseeker Hellas, and the Portofino 40 exhibited on the stand was handed over to her new owner in February by Sunseeker Torquay. Christopher adds; “following the show, boats have been delivered at a rate of knots; a 115 Sport Yacht, several 28 Metres, an 80 Yacht and a brace of Manhattan 63s to mention just a few.”
Talk of deliveries brings us back to the 155 Yacht, which Christopher points out is currently en route to her home destination of Monaco, where she is due to be berthed during the Monaco Grand Prix from 22nd-25th May. “With the sort of F1 heritage that lies behind her creation, there probably couldn’t be a more appropriate place for this 155 Yacht to make her Mediterranean public debut,” says Christopher. “In a melting pot of yachting, sport, glamour and show business, Sunseeker’s association with the likes of Eddie Jordan adds serious value to the integrity of the brand, and makes for a particularly exciting 2014 Monaco GP! Our Sunseeker Monaco office is looking forward to being in and around the marinas during both the main and historic grand prix.”
“Yet, it is not just about the who and where with this launch, there’s the what too,” he continues. “The 155 represents a symbol of British manufacturing excellence. Every single production stage of the 47.25m Sunseeker flagship took place in the Poole-based shipyard. Assisted by a local workforce of nearly 2,500 people, she is a real home creation and the epitome of the term best of British. ”
The 155 Yacht is a true testament to Sunseeker International’s technological capabilities, design flair and forward thinking. The very production and completion in Poole shows the permanence and resilience of British manufacturing and a company that is proud of its roots.
Sales Director Christopher concludes by saying; “not only does the launch of the 155 Yacht prove the existence of evolution within our industry, but also a longevity; not least because the second 155 slot has just been sold by our colleagues in the Middle East and hull number 3 is already in strong negotiation.”
Promising a completely different interior design to that of Eddie Jordan’s, the second 155 Yacht is bound to bring a new set of challenges to the Sunseeker International design and production teams, all of which they will undoubtedly relish as they create manufacturing history for the second (and perhaps soon to be third) time.
